Mit Mia Mammut in die Eiszeit. Kid's Book
With Mia Mammut into the Ice Age - the story of the Ice Age stars!
For the first time, a mammoth is telling the story of long-extinct Ice Age inhabitants. Mia introduces the stars of the past in many adventurous stories. She tells of the voracious saber-toothed tiger Stella, whose 28 centimeter long canine teeth frightened every dentist, and of the Titanoboa Viktor, the snake that swallowed a whole crocodile. Or about the camera-shy giant ape Kevin, who inspired the myth of the Yeti. The arctic squirrels, who broke the record for a long sleep in their earth tunnels, make everyone laugh. This book also explains how to use the hairdryer to thaw a mammoth that was frozen 40,000 years ago. And you get to know all prehistoric beings - cave bears, bison, sloths, prehistoric wolves, Yukon ponies, the bear-like bully Maria (weighed 900 kilos), Irish deer, saber-toothed salmon, giant beavers, and of course the likable, small Neanderthals.
With the funny, colorful illustrations by Rob Hodgson, the imaginative children's book introduces young readers to paleontology in a playful way and acquaints them with basic knowledge about the Stone Age and Ice Age and the extinction of animal species. This book is an honest recommendation for children's books, as there is more specialist knowledge behind the stories about giant snakes and polar bears than one would initially assume. A glossary reveals what the difficult technical terms mean: "ancestors," "reptiles," or "wingspan". One chapter deals only with the asphalt mine "La Brea Tar Pits" in Los Angeles, from which researchers recovered the remains of over 600 animal species that sank there 40,000 to 10,000 years ago. In this example, the terms "fossil", "natural asphalt," and "archaeological bone find" are made understandable in a loving way.
